Reflection 3 ( Pedagogy )

Middle of the semester and as usual, this two hands of mine are not enough to do all works. But still, I am here to share some opinion and always excited for this.

Hi to all pedagogue to be !

Okay, since I already learnt about how to create a lesson plan last week and got a lot of new knowledge I think i am more prepared to be a good teacher in future.*that confidence tho

Lesson plan is not an easy things to do actually but its bring more benefits and one of important elements in teaching. In designing a lesson plan, there are too much things to look at and the teachers need to be super creative.

Sometimes, mistakes will occur and today we will discuss about some possible mistakes a teacher might make when designing a lesson plan. First of all, the common mistakes is the teachers are not aware about their students proficiency or ability and design a lesson plan which is not suitable for the students. This can be a disaster because if the students can't cope with the lesson plan, then we will not achieve the learning objectives.

Next is the learning objectives is just too much and impossible for the students to learn a lot of topic in one period. As we know, students ability have the limit so me must consider many things before just simply put the learning objectives. We can't expect them to digest and understand all the things that we taught in a short time.

To make the class fun, some teachers choose to play some games in class which is a good idea. But the mistakes is the game that they choose require a long time and not connected to the topic. The teacher should evaluate very details the activity they choose not just to make the students busy and have somethings to do.

Last but not least, one of the mistakes in designing lesson plan is the teachers did not use a suitable materials and sometimes the materials are not enough. For example, handling an activity that use materials need a lot of preparation for the teachers and the teachers need to brings enough materials. If not, the activity will not be effective and the students will be dissapointed.

Eh it's already late ! I need to go to class. See you soon and thank you for your time. Till we meet again.

Reflection 2 ( Pedagogy )

Hi everyone. Its feel so good to see you all again.

Back to school

Hey, do you guys still remember our golden times while studying at school? I must say that those days are one of the most great time in my life. Actually, all the experiences at school are really help me in my study right now. For example, last few weeks I learnt about teaching pedagogies or also known as method of teaching and while i'm studying this i can recognize which one of my teachers who applied certain methods. Each teacher have their own way and styles.

If i given a chance to teach Form 4 students in English subject, I would like to apply few teaching methods which i think is suitable. Direct instruction, student-centered teaching, and problem based learning would be fantastic to be applied for Form 4 students. Why ? Let's me explain the reasons.

Steps for Direct Instruction

Direct instruction is a method of teaching that the students are following the teachers instruction and the teachers as a role model for them. This can be very effective for Form 4 students because they get a clear details about the tasks. But, this pedagogy can be applied for only certain topic because Form 4 students basically already matured and they should be given an opportunity to develop their creative thinking. If I only used this kind of method, I believe that the students will not get enough space to think out of the box and explore new ideas. Direct instruction is very helpful for students in some cases but it's not enough for a teachers to just apply this method.

Let the students get their hand dirty and have fun in class.

So, to let them participate and voice out their ideas, I choose student-centered learning method. This method focus on the students' participation in class. By this, i can evaluate each one of the students and can increase their confidence level to talk. Even I am the teacher but using this way I also can learn because the students usually have some different ideas from me. It is okay to let the class have some noise and let them learn something rather than keep the quite environment but the students learnt less. Don't you guys think so ?

We give the problem, let them think and solve.
As a teacher who teach Form 4 class, i need to realize that the students will face more new things in near future when they put their feet in university. So, as a preparation for them i choose to apply problem based learning so that they can adapt in real life which is really need them to think critically. This is one of the way for me to help them being more rational in making decision. The students not only get more understanding about the topic but also I can implement something for their future. 2 in 1!

For now, that's all. Thanks and don't forget to wait for my next post.

Reflection 1 ( Pedagogy )

Hello beautiful people ! How is your day ?

Image result for good day

Its been a long time since i did not update my blog since i got some problem with the account. But, fortunately its just for a while. Oh yes ! Actually few weeks ago, i learnt something new in my Pedagogy class and i found it was interesting to be shared to all especially for those who are passionate in education course.

  I am excited ! Wuhuu ~ ~ ~

Okay. Here we go.  Do you guys know that actually there are 3 types of School of Thoughts ? First is Behaviorist school of thought which mean students follow or imitate the teacher's behavior. And based on my experience during primary school, this is one of the most popular way used by the teacher to teach.

So, how about Cognitive school of thought? As the word 'cognitive' is there so i am sure that some of you can guess that it is something related to brain. BINGO ! You guys are so smart. Correct, cognitive school of thought is focus more on brain development of the students.

And the last one is Humanistic school of thought. For this kind school of thought, teachers are playing another role apart of teaching which is being the student's friend, family and a good partner. Or in other word we can say the teacher empathy for the student. Always put yourself in student's shoes so that we can understand them better.

If i am an English teacher, i would choose to apply Behaviorist school of thought because i think it is suitable for the subject. Why i think so ? Okay, things are become more interesting to be discussed and don't you think it sound more serious now ? Teacher Arina is trying hard to be strict and hope all 'students' are still interested to finish reading. Huhu

Back to the topic. Behaviorist school of thought is suitable for English subject is because in this subject, students will learn more by follow the teacher's instruction because it is too fixed for certain topic such as learning the grammar.

Not just that, students will be motivated more to study because in cognitive school of thought there are punish and reward system which mean students will get 'something' for everything they did. If they did good, then they will get reward and if they did bad, they will be punished.

But, i also believe that actually a school of thought can't stand alone. A mixture of those 2 or 3 school of thought will be more effective to be applied. Just an example, using mixture of Behaviorist and Humanistic school of thought to teach English would be fantastic especially for low proficiency students, they might need our help more than other students and here is where Humanistic should be applied.

For Humanistic part, we as a good teachers should acknowledge the ability of our students and find a way on how to make them feel that actually English is fun. It is not an easy thing for some students to learn new language and maybe some of them have no basic knowledge about the language especially for those who live in rural area.

As a conclusion for my statement all above, i would like to combine Behaviorist and Humanistic School of thought because i found that this combination is perfect and suitable for the subject matter that i will teach.

Grrrr..! I have many more to share but seem like my stomach did not cooperate well.  Why not we have some lunch first and next time i will come with more interesting topic to be discussed. See you soon lovelies. Hope this sharing bring some benefits to all. Nah, let's share some pizza together.
